Oaklawn Community Center Rules of Conduct

  1. There shall be no arbitrary exclusion on the bases of race, sex, religion, disability, or national origin: however the Community Center is not a day care facility.
  2. Community Center hours will generally be 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday, excluding Oaklawn designated holidays. Closing due to weather or program scheduling, shall be based on the judgment of the Director of the Community Center.
  3. When an accident, injury, or robbery occurs, report it to staff immediately, and call 911. A written report should be filed within 24 hours to the District Clerk, who will notify the Oaklawn Improvement District board of Directors.
  4. It shall be the Community Center Directors responsibility to schedule all events and/or programs at the Community Center for both youth and seniors.
  5. Items for public display (i.e. brochures, flyers, and other materials) will be approved by the Community Center Director, with Improvement District Board approval when needed, generally request for political materials or presentation will be denied.
  6. Oaklawn Improvement District staff will not be responsible for personal items brought to the center.
  7. Smoking, alcohol, or illegal drugs will NOT be allowed in the Community Center.
  8. Any person violating the established rules of conduct or constituting a public nuisance will be asked to leave by any Oaklawn Improvement District Staff. If the person does not leave, the Oaklawn staff will call 911 to have the person removed.
  9. Misuse of the facility or failure to conform to the rules of conduct will be reason for refusal for future use of the facility. Usage of public access computers and/or internet so as to cause harm to others or violate the law, or to encourage others to violate the law, or view, transmit, or download sexually explicit pornographic materials or child pornography.
  10. Individuals or organizations shall comply with applicable City, County, State, and Federal laws, rules, and regulations.
  11. The Oaklawn Improvement District is not responsible for accidents, injury, illness or loss of group or individual property either in the building or on the property grounds.
  12. No abusive, threatening or obscene language or actions will be tolerated.
  13. No physical or verbal abuse of Oaklawn staff and/or patrons.
  14. Fire arms or weapons of any kind (including concealed) will not be allowed in the building of 2937 Oaklawn Drive, other than by authorized law enforcement personnel.
  15. Organization or individuals may not use the Center as a mailing address, telephone number, or for storage, without approval of the Oaklawn Improvement District Board of Directors. 
  16. The telephone is a business phone, local calls only, limited to three minutes, all other calls must be approved by the Community Center Director.
  17. Animals are not permitted inside the building, except for service animals, staff may ask if it is a service animal and what it is trained to do.
  18. All routine building maintenance will be handled by the Oaklawn Improvement District maintenance or someone contracted with the Improvement District to complete improvements to the center.
  19. Patrons of the Community Center are required to wear appropriate attire and have clean personal hygiene, exhibiting body hygiene that is so offensive as to constitute a nuisance or health hazard to other individuals in the center will be asked to leave.
  20. If patrons are exposed to bodily build, such as blood, saliva, vomit, etc. notify Oaklawn staff to clean the area.
  21. Follow all food handling guidelines when working with food.
  22. Patrons are to stay out of the kitchen during Friendship Meal time.
  23. Creating a disturbance by engaging in disruptive conversation/discussions about normal conversational noise levels, deliberately making excessive noise, shouting or talking in a disturbing fashion, the gratuitous use of profanity or engaging in other disruptive conduct.
  24. Leaving minors under the age of 6 unattended. Note: Minors under the age of 6 must be closely accompanied at all times by a participant or other adult.

Individuals who abuse the rules will be asked to leave the center until a meeting with the person and the Oaklawn Improvement District Board of Directors can be held with the person and the Community Center Director or the staff member that asked the person to leave. If the person failed to leave the center as requested 911 will be called.
